Max
Max is staying with us for a few days while his owners are away so I thought we'd better take some pictures. The best picture of the day would have been Max walking in after his 'paddle' in the pond but sadly the camera was not ready.

David and Isla's Wedding
I thought I would post a couple of detail shots from a recent wedding. You can view more pictures on my business blog.
The first picture features the bride's bouquet - we lit this using a gridded flash held up high camera right. We tried to create the illusion of sunlight coming in from a window.
The second image is a shot of the rings perched on the grooms buttonhole. To light this we simply bounced the flash off my white shirt.
It is nice, even at a fast paced Wedding to play with your off camera lighting.

Joe McNally
On Friday we were lucky enough to attend the Joe McNally lighting workshop arranged by Kelby training at the Islington Design Centre.

Joe is a real natural in front of an audience and it was an informative, entertaining day. I still remain unconvinced about CLS! If you get the chance to attend one of his workshops I would definitely recommend it – we had a great time!!

Holly and Simeon
A few pictures from last nights shoot with Holly and Simeon. For the camera geeks among you these were taken with the Nikon D50 with kit lens. We used two off camera flashes one through a shoot through umbrella and one bare.

Matt and Cath's Wedding at the Blazing Donkey

Sandwich Boxing Club
Last night we visited Sandwich Boxing Club to take some pictures. I had a few goals for the evening - as always making things difficult!
- I wanted to make sure we had a couple on 'nice' pictures of everyone. By nice I mean a reasonable portrait that your Mum or your girlfriend would like.
- Light the portraits so it didn't look like the gym
- Get some training shots - again including everyone
- Do all of the above in less than one hour
We did fairly well and I am delighted with the results. As always there are a number of learning points, the Studio lights once again played up, they only want to fire every other time when triggered by the Elinchrom Skyports. We ended up setting them to slave mode which seemed to work ok. I really need to investigate to find out what is going wrong. The Nikon Speedlights on the other hand performed perfectly.
We also took too long to set up, we had a boom arm with counterweight which does its job well but is a real pain to set up. It is also a nuisance when you wan't to adjust the power output of the flash on the end of the boom. I think I will have to get a nice set of Quadra Rangers.
As always there are a few more images on DoverDesign - at the moment these are pretty unprocessed.
